I installed windows 10 just the other day and so far it runs exactly like it does on windows 8.1

My only issue is that my avermedia feed will drop frames and stutter every few seconds in the preview window and when recording, not sure if OBS is clashing with something running in the background or not but that never happened to me on windows 8.

It's still recommended to wait till the official release which will happen in about a month (6/29 to be exact). Windows 10 Tech Preview is currently fairly stable but there isn't any real benefit to upgrade to Win 10 (Tech Preview) before the official release. After the release everything will get better support, because the OS should be finalized at that point.

How do Monitor Capture and Window Capture work? I think those were the only issues I heard reported back when the first preview was released, but that was a lot earlier in Windows 10's development, so who knows what was messed up back then...not to mention lacking driver support.

Last time I checked window capture from my capture card's software the OBS window would still drop frames every few moments while the avermedia tv window was staying smooth, this was back on the 0.10 build.

Since trying out 0.11 the frame drops in OBS have been less but not completely gone, but this could also be due to windows 10 being updated to the point where it's more or less final build now, or at least it's one big update away from being the launch version at the end of this month.

Overall though OBS multi on windows is producing better looking video then the old OBS did on the same old core2duo i'm stuck using and i'm really happy about that.

When you say frame drops, are you referring to the dropped frames counter at the bottom of OBS? Or do you mean a reduction in framerate of your system? Or choppiness in recorded video?

i will have to check but the feed itself will stutter and drop frames, this also makes the output video has the dropped frames too.

Probably due to their mandatory gamerui hooking every game without the option to get rid of it. I noticed quite a few issues with that, but mainly in windowed games. Fullscreen capture worked fine for me so far.

Ah, the GTX 260 has a history of poor performance with OBS, so that is likely the culprit. And your dual-core GPU isn't doing you any favors, either. Your best bet is to keep resolution low and lower your x264 preset to superfast or ultrafast (in Advanced settings).

Is there any reason why the older OBS was fine with this setup? it just feels weird that even when not streaming and just watching the obs window I get drops in framerate while no encoding is going on in OBS multi.

Do you think replacing the 260 with say a 750 would help on a core2duo? when I stream i'm usually only hitting 50% cpu usage.

Not weird at all. When you're watching the OBS preview window, OBS is still rendering that view on the GPU, and that GPU is notoriously slow.

A 750 would be better but the CPU will still be a huge bottleneck such that you won't be able to stream/record above 480p.

So far results with Windows 10 are really good. Despite a small hickup with a game crashing when OBS MP hooks to it. Did not happen yesterday and a reboot was required to fix it (not okay). No frames dropping no problems other than that one. Stream was smooth for 4+ hours 720p 60 fps.

I would like to know whether there were plans to make a Windows 10 the ability to capture a certain virtual desktop, if there is such an opportunity?

I tried streaming / recording with the obs preview window disabled and I had no visible performance difference, so i tried using the old regular obs again and to my surprise even that is dropping frames now in exactly the same way.

Before moving to windows 10 the original obs was silky smooth so I really do think there's something going on with windows 10 for myself, once nvidia get a full on windows 10 driver out there i'll be trying it.
