Hi,

First time here and I apologize in advance for my English.

Since few weeks I have a weird problem with OBS while streaming on Twitch and local recording on 4K on a WD Black SN850X m.2 SSD.

After few hours or minutes my OBS screen become black, my stream crash and my local record too. The weird thing is that OBS kind of still responding, I can go on the menu, click on stop streaming, stop recording but nothing happen, I have to kill the OBS processus in my task manager, launch OBS again and go online again and this can happen again after few minutes or hours.

Weird thing, it's happen A LOT in a game in particular, Star Wars Outlaws PC.

Already try to reinstall OBS of course and I still have this problem.

Tonight it happen 3 times, after 1h31mn37sec (a little more as I broadcast ~10min music before to start), maybe 10 minutes after and 58min35sec the last time.

As I was upset I deceided to stream another game (Final Fantasy XVI) and 1h30 min without any problem.

Sadly I have no crash log since OBS don't really crash, I force it with Windows task manager but I can provide the logs software (2024-09-21 have no issue while 2024-09-22 may have and 2024-09-23 absolutely have this issue) :

II don't know if it help as most of these infos are in the logs but my specs are :

CPU : i7-13700F

GPU : RTX 4090 MSI Ventus 3X

RAM : 64 Go DDR5 5200 MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB

Motherboard : MSI Pro B760M-P

SSD : PNY CS900 Sata III (Windows) 1 To m.2 WD Black SN850X PCIe gen 4 - 4 To (local record and OBS Install)

m.2 WD Black SN850X PCIe gen 4 - 4 To (games)

Power supply : Aorus P850W 80+ Gold

OS : Windows 11 Pro

OBS is fully update (stable version), same for Windows, Nvidia and drivers.

II have no clues about this problem and feeling a little desesperate...

Thx in avance for any help you can provide me.

Edit:
The "screen become black" - is likely graphics driver restart. You may check the logs of the OS itself (Event Viewer), there you are looking for events when graphics driver was restarted (because of runtime errors). Cause can be any: malfunction device or bad driver.

See below.

Hi Suslik V,

First thank you for the answer, I've check my event viewer and I find nothing at the hours of the problem related to OBS or drivers. I've sent the export (didn't know it was possible) to a friend of mine who is more capable than me to find something wrong, I may share the report here but as it's in French I don't know if it's relevant.

Just something more, I use my LG C3 TV as a principal screen and on my second screen (Asus 4K screen) I have OBS, when I have this problem with OBS if there is a graphical / driver issue it's only IN OBS as both screen still respond without issue and the game still run perfectly, the black screen is in OBS not on my computer screen but I'm pretty sure you've already understand that.

The weird thing is why OBS don't simply crash, it would be more easy to find why this problem happen but I've check there is no crash logs in OBS crash folder sadly.

My Nvidia drivers are up to date, others drivers too and my PC is highly stable despite this issue.

I will Monitor this and when it will happen again (probably wednesday as I will stream Star Wars Outlaws again) I will have a more precise hour when the problem happen.

I'm really happy to leave Xsplit for OBS but this issue is really anoying.

If somebody have any idea, I'm listening, thx you for your time.

It's my fault I don't explain it the good way, yeah it's the OBS preview who turn black, stop the local record, freeze Twitch streaming and OBS seems in a semi state of working whitout really working, no crash, can use the menu but I only can kill the process and launch OBS again to go back in stream.

Anyway I'll stream Star Wars Outlaws tomorow, not wednesday, I'm pretty sure it will "crash" again so I'll send the right log instead of dozen of logs.

I've stream 3h22min this afternoon (Red Dead Redemption 2, not Star Wars Outlaws) everything works fine, I'll stream God of War in few minutes and I'm pretty sure it will work fine.

Maybe Star Wars Outlaws have graphical or specific configuration who messed up with OBS, I don't know.

I'm only referencing the:
and nothing else was on my mind. How it can affect OBS? I don't know. Sometimes HAGS can shoot out strange problems. You may try to disable it (just for test purposes).

From your description of the problem I can only assume that memory dump of the OBS process (when OBS already fail and still running) may help to analyze the issue. So, if you'll find developer (some are active in the Discord, links at top right corner of the forum) that can do the job and has free time - then make a dump as soon as the problem appears. https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-create-a-dmp-file-for-debugging.598/

Hi,

I believed the problem was solved (new Nvidia Drivers and Star Wars Outlaws Patch) because I stream more than 6h without problem but no, problem still here sadly.

About CPU usage even when it "crash" CPU usage move between 5% to 30% (30% seems a lot no ? i7-13700F ) in Windows task manager, in OBS it's only 0.1% to 0.2%, OBS don't seems to get the right CPU usage, I don't know why, it's seems higher than when there is no "crash".

"Fun fact", I restart OBS 4 time and it "crash" very quickly as I was still in game, I quit the game, restart the stream and after the game, I've played ~1h30min whitout issue.

The game drop frame (not in OBS, in general) when it runs since few time, sometime when framerate are to low I make a save and I load the save and all is fine after. The game is awfully optimised but at the point of "crashing" OBS ? Strange. I will probably finish the game before a fix was find / Ubisoft optimised the game :'(

I only see the " HAGS" tip, I'll tried asap.

Regards, Link.

Hi,

"HAGS" tip don't change anything but I've finish the game so, I won't post anything here, as OBS work wonderful on all others games, once again Ubisoft did an awful optimisation :'(

Regards, Link.
