Sound is... strange (with example video)

Hey everybody,

Since a little while ago, the sounds of my recording (and consequently streaming) with obs sound strange, like there's some noise cancelling going on, but only on the game portion of the sound.

Here's a video at the right timecode to describe what i meant: https://youtu.be/rcgOr9NoDwg?t=281

Hear how it sound like there's noise cancelling going on? I verified, there's none, and it doesn't happen all the time at all. Sometimes the sound is fine for a long time, then it suddenly cut. Since it's required, here's the log of my last session:

(I noticed the game DVR was on, so i turned it off, then tested it again, the issue still persist)

It happen since not too long ago, and i don't know what's provoking it. Any help is appreciated.

I don't hear a noise suppressor. Lots of people have slapped those on, thinking they're magic, and then wondered what happened to their music or repetitive sound effects...which it kills because it only allows speech through. But your music stays up, so it's probably not that.

Are you talking about the music going away when you talk and coming back when you don't? There are (at least) two ways to do that on purpose:
  • Put a compressor on the music, and side-chain it to the mic instead of itself. So it doesn't actually compress the music, but when the mic is active, the music drops.
  • Mix the mic and music together, with the mic REALLY HOT, and then compress or limit the mix.
But you don't want that to happen? You want the music to stay up? Anyway, those are some things to look for, whether you did it on purpose or not.

No the sound lowering when i talk is on purpose, but i should have posted a video of how the sound is supposed to be.

Here, another video, not from me, where the sound is correct: https://youtu.be/puWTz8toRHc?t=35534

That way, you can compare with mine, and hear that there's something not normal about it.

I think part of the problem of getting help is that video games make it really hard to tell what's intentional and what's not. *Anything* could be an intentional part of the sound, to simulate some sort of in-game effect. Can you reproduce the problem with something that is well-known?
(and doesn't violate someone's copyright like random music and movies often do; it's *probably* Fair Use if it's a short clip and incidental to asking for help with something else, but the algorithms don't know that)

Just an answer to say i solved the problem myself. I use voicemeeter with VBAN (since i stream on a second pc), and i decided to switch the audio capture from my Yeti microphone to my HDMI, and since then, no more sound problems. I have no idea what the problem was with the microphone audio capture, but hey, problem solved...
