Question / Help OBS Studio makes my game lag when open...

So ive been using OBS for years with no problem. I upgrade to the newest version 24.0.3 (i reverted back to 24.0.1 and the issue is still here) and now when i have OBS open my game has micro stuttering... here is the catch though. I get NO fps drops at all. The game stays at 144 fps with no dips but feels like im playing at 22 fps, but only with OBS open.

Now if i have it open and minimize it the problem takes about a minute to go away but i can no longer see my stream/recording which for years ive had no issue. Having it minimized works but is inconvenient and i shouldnt have to since 2 weeks ago it was buttery smooth and now even with downgrading versions doesnt want to work as intended.

What can i do?

My ram is now 32 gbs not 16 gbs

I have the same problema with Apex Legends and COD, my frames apear to jump up and down... IT feels like 5 FPS..... Any fixes?

Having the same problem with GTA 5. Random stutter all over the place and input lag that makes the game unplayable, and this is just with OBS open (not streaming or recording or using it in any way).

All I did was search game mode and turn it off. Game mode takes all of the processing power of your cpu and gpu and focuses it on games, so there is no power for obs. Turning it off gives obs some processing power and that SHOULD fix it. It worked for me

Hello, I have the same issue here. When I open OBS the game just feels choppy even if I have the same framerate. Game Mode doesn’t change anything. I have a 10900k and an rtx 3090 with 32 gigs of ram @3600mhz. Any thoughts?

Got the Same problem here too. Ryzen 5950x, Rtx 3090, 64 Gb ram. No framerate drops but game gets choppy. Tried turning on and off game mode and disabling shadowplay. Anyone found a fix yet?

Also, try capping your game at 60 FPS Encoding with NVENC uses some GPU memory and bus bandwidth not much but if the game is trying to use all of the GPU's resources it's fighting OBS for the very little it needs So, try capping your FPS to 60 or 120 Not only will free ups resources but also sync better with your streaming FPS which is either 30 or 60

This doesn’t help. Capping the fps only makes the game to also feel laggy. Running on 2x 165hz monitor setup.

Same problem here, Warzone stutters the moment I open Obs. I moved all my scenes/overlays/sources to my other pc and use NDI but even with only Game Capture and Video Capture, it lags

Anyone got a fix for this yet? I am also getting this issue. If I am just running my game 140 fps no problem no stutter no lag no nothing. The moment I open OBS not even going Live just OPENING it I drop 50 fps and also the game feels extremely sluggish and laggy.
