OBS Stream Crashing |60-100% of GPU (prevails after stream)| High CPU usage -> freezes/crashes stream

Hello,

I’ve been experiencing issues while streaming with OBS where my stream freezes or crashes when CPU usage spikes high. Despite extensive troubleshooting, I haven’t been able to resolve the problem and need help identifying the root cause.

I've noticed some time ago, that the GPU usage spikes after some time hits around 65-100% and stays on about 65% even after stream. (Idle after opening about 8% cpu, 17% gpu)

I know with the "source record", and with that recording multiple sources, I am using more resources than normal, but until about 2 weeks ago it has never been a big issue. No spikes, no crashes.

I thought it might be the new game I started, but I reduced the quality without much change and it started happening to other less intense games too.

I checked the OBS analyzer, I hit a Max Audio Buffer with my "Razer Kiyo Pro" (https://obsproject.com/logs/ypqcOu3y7TQEXQt5), but I've seem to have fixed that, without changing the result of this problem...

I changed the multiple game captures (https://obsproject.com/logs/jmjObivE4IuzNCKh), I made my scenes as easy as possible, I removed the "face tracker" plugin (one of the only things I can think of that I changed), made nested scenes easier, put all of my alerts and chats in as little of browser sources as possible.

There are no red nor orange reports through the OBS analyzer now (https://obsproject.com/logs/usO3jU7uBqJc0fFv), but I'm still hitting the highs of CPU (about 40%, bringing my cpu to 100% for some reason) and GPU (as I said 60-100%).

What seems to have been always weirdly high is my average time to render frame about 16.3 ms even if I have OBS open without streaming. (attached)

I left it open while I was gone, maybe this crash report can help too: https://obsproject.com/logs/3RXgrY5RylTRN5Lk

I'm at a loss here and I just want to enjoy streaming T-T

PC Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080
RAM: 64GB DDR4

I also use Audio Monitor and Move source

I really hope you can help me and I appreciate every idea or help I can get.

Thank you in advance,
NikNes

There's lots o slop in those logs.

Move & Source Record plugins are stale, update them & see if things improve.

16:44:38.196: [Move Transition] loaded version 2.8.0

16:44:40.371: Failed to load 'en-GB' text for module: 'source-record.dll'
16:44:40.371: [Source Record] loaded version 0.3.1

Hi,

I updated the plugins, the average render time seems to have gotten down a bit, but there was still a ~99% gpu spike of obs (Up to 70% gpu usage is somewhat fine, after that the frames are dropping fast xp)

Here's the log file https://obsproject.com/logs/23zw92wdOBt7V4rs
I hope there's less slop now tho haha

And thanks for the help ^^

Sounds like there was some improvement but the log ends before you stopped encoding. The tiny tubular task thread crashing is caused by a plugin. Fix the resolution on this encode, maybe it's causing issues with Source Record or the encoder itself.

Tons of SE, java script errors that could be wasting resources. Most appear to be browser sources, cleaning them up would be a good thing to do.

For the encoding, all (8) encodes can be completed with the 3080. Just need to use lower presets. Or you can do some of the encodes with the iGPU to free up some headroom on your CPU.

This is a great reference, check out Table 2.

I removed some stuff, but I'll just be able to test it in some days xp
I really appreciate your help ^^

So going through your messages:
I have no idea why it was not 1920x1080, nor how to really change it ^^' - But there is a "scale" unchecked with a greyed out 0x0, so either I clicked something and fixed it or I might to manually need to put it to 1920x1080, but I'll find that out after the next test/analyze file.

What do you want to tell me through:
"
20:43:13.066: Game Bar: On > Off
20:43:13.066: Game DVR: On > Off "? ^^'

I didn't know turned of filters would be so demanding still, but I think I removed everything unnecessary of what you sent me (scale to sound and old directories).

I put of both of the accelerations.

Which of the 13 browser sources might be a problem? Multiple are chat add-ons which I use frequently, alerts, ads... -> Not much I can change or easily funnel into another :/
Do you have an idea?

I thought with Overlays, Alerts and Chat being source recorded on Software x264 CBR, 500Kbps and ultrafast I might use very little CPU
The Cam and the Game might use more GPU with Hardware (NVENC, H.264) CQP ~15/16, with the stream those are 6 Encodes?
Even more, I haven't changed those in months, why would it be a problem now? :/

Anyway, thank you for the help, I'll keep you updated soon and for now Merry Christmas ^^

Really need a new/complete log now that there have been plugins updated & other changes made. The screen shots you posted above in your first post show that you have/had rendering lag (GPU overload) & I'm not sure if it's still overloaded since the log provided after the updates were made was incomplete.

I don't use Source Record so I'm not going to be able to help much with the settings. I do use the Multi-RTMP Output plugin & that does have a field for setting the output resolution.

You can disable Game Bar & Game DVR (Captures) in Windows Gaming as they're not needed & can waste resources.

It looks like most if not all 13 of them are throwing errors. Check the log(s) & look for this stuff.

Still got about the same amount of rendering lag (overload) going on, get rid of that rendering lag & things will look even better. You cleaned up most of those SE errors but a few of them still remain.

Is OBS still crashing on exit?

The audio lag may be due to system overload or something else. Currently almost all audio inputs are set to Use Device Timing. I would change this up & only use device timing for (1) audio input, for the rest of them disable it as there's no way all of those sources are arriving to OBS at the same exact time.

For the next test, try creating a new Scene Collection with just (1) Scene/Source. This will eliminate all the filters/errors in the current Profile. If things look good on the new collection, then we can be fairly certain that there's something in the current Profile slowing things down.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been sick...

Yeah, I tried putting all the settings down a small amount.

The crash on exit has not happened so far.

I changed all of the monitors to 60 Hz and put the game on 60/30 Fps.

I changed all the device stamps to 0, except for my mic I think.

Here's another stream with the normal settings. I don't know why the audio sample rate is different with one audio source, because I didn't change anything, but I changed it back already:

Here's a stream with just one scene. What is weird is that it is telling me it had multiple captures (I deleted a _window_ capture right before the stream, otherwise this (screenshot) is all the sources I have, no filters, nothing):

Big improvement here, one or more of the plugins more than likely to blame.

I don't think there is much I can change as of now and I've been streaming some days now and it has been great so far, regarding the lag/crashes.
I'll be sure to write again if there are more problems occurring.
Thank you for so much for your help and time.
