OBS randomly starts freezing, System Interrupts @90% CPU usage

Hi everyone,

I unfortunately face a very strange issue:
When I have OBS running (no matter if I am streaming or if I just have it open in the Background), it sometimes "freezes" my complete PC - the mouse starts lagging, audio is crackling, I am barely able to open the task manager.
The task manager shows "system interrupts" is using 90% of my CPU resources at that moment. The only way to fix this, is killing the OBS task. Then everything returns to normal.

Some more Info:
- I am running NVIDIA Broadcast for my cam(s)
- same behavior was present when I was using StreamlabsOBS
- I do not have any other problems with my machine

I have attached my latest logfiles.

You're using SE.live plugin. Please contact them for support.
Alternatively, uninstall it. Then uninstall and reinstall OBS in order to fix the changes made by this plugin. Now please do a test stream/recording of more than 30 seconds and post the log file here.

Thanks for your reply.

I have uninstalled StreamElements and re-installed OBS. Test recording has been done, logs attached.

Hi Both, I have exactly the same issue and no idea how to fix this. I used OBS for recording for years now and had to move to Shadowplay for the time being. With OBS, the moment I open a game, it can freeze my PC and system interrupts go up to 100%. I have reinstalled everything but no luck.

I have uninstalled StreamElements and re-installed OBS. Test recording has been done, logs attached.

You have some things to fix first.

Please follow directions and recommendations in the analizer and test it again. Post a new log file after that.
Read the log file too. It has errors on some browser sources you are using. Perhaps you need to remove them.

Video settings, base resolution is the resolution of your main monitor, the one you capture to stream. Output resolution is the one you stream into.
B-frames must be 2

Using so many browser sources have an impact on performance too. Assuming you're using streamelements for overlays, create an overlay with the layout you need with all the components such as chat, alerts, donation bars, etc. Create as many as you need for different scenes where the layout differs. Consider changing the scenes layout to accommodate in 2 or 3 overlays so if you need to change something it's easier .
The less, the better.

Videos can be remuxed into webm format to lower the impact it have in the system too.

MP4/MOV Recording - I do not record, so shouldn't be a problem.
Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduler - have had this turned off already, still faced the freezing issues.
Browser hardware acceleration is disabled, as the StreamElement windows became blurry otherwise.

My base canvas is 1920x1080, my main WQHD "screen capture" is scaled into the canvas. Works fine for me.
B-Frames are set to 4 due to "Look-ahead" being enabled as per NVIDIAS Guidelines for using NVENC.

Good catch. I have reduced the no. of Browser sources to 4 now.

I have removed most of the Videos (camera borders) and selected the "close file when inactive" option.

Short update:
Since the removal of StreamElements and a reinstall of OBS, I havent faced any freeze whil having OBS opened in the background. I will stream today and monitor if I have problems onstream.
So xxDoogieXX, if you have Plugins running try to get rid of them and check if that may solve your problem.

Thanks DU3RII, unfortunately my OBS is extremely basic. Just fresh install to record gameplay like I used to for many years. Happy you managed to get yours resolved.
