Hi I work for a church that has been livestreaming its services on Facebook during the COVID pandemic. OBS is such a great tool for us, but lately we've had some problems connecting our existing audio system.
For awhile we were using the mic attached to a webcam, which sufficed for a month or two, but the audio and video quality we pretty bad so we upgraded to a new DSLR camera and found a way to connect our existing mixer board to our livestreaming computer.
The computer is an iMac and the mixer board is a Yamaha TF5. On the back of the mixer board there is a USB port that connects directly to the iMac. The board works ok with OBS and the sound quality is much better than the webcam mic. However, one issue that keeps bothering me is OBS only receives mono audio from the board.
The mic we are using is a Shure podium mic, which is supposed to be stereo. We've replaced the USB cable and the mic cables twice, so its probably not a hardware issue. I've also looked in the TF5 manual to see if theres any information about using the USB feature, but I've found nothing. I've looked on the OBS forums quite a bit too and no one seems to have the same problem.
Is there some setting that needs to be changed on the mixer? Does OBS need a plugin to work correctly?
The TF5 manual says windows machines need an extra driver to make the mixer work, but with mac it's just supposed to work.
Here is the link to the TF5 manual: https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/8/392718/tf5_en_rm_v40_i0.pdf
I will look and see what the model of the Shure mic is.
