OBS crashing after starting replay buffer.

my obs crashes after ~4 seconds when starting the replay buffer (or recording). In that ~4 seconds i can see my mouse still moving in the preview but everything else freezes until it crashes.

things i've tried:
  • started as admin/not as admin
  • updated to the latest version (i was on a pretty old one)
  • rebooted my pc
everything in the log file seems normal to me, except the last line which is written upon crashing:
"[AMF] <Id: 3> Unable to set converter transfer characteristic, error AMF_NOT_FOUND (code 11)"

to my surprise there is no crash log. %appdata%/obs-studio/crashes is completely empty. maybe it's not a hard-crash? it freezes and a few seconds after that it just exits on itself. windows doesn't tell me that obs is not responding and the cursor only changes to the "loading cursor" for a split-second.
