I have a two-PC setup where I'm playing a game on PC1 and I'm trying to record the gameplay in 4K60 on PC2 (CBR / 50,000 Kbps). PC2 has a NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU. Almost as soon as I hit Record, there is a huge amount of dropped frames due to encoding lag. In HWMonitor, I see that GPU encoder is 100% all the time. This is a relatively fresh Windows 11 Pro install, and I have nothing installed on this PC except OBS and NDI (this setup was, in fact, particularly done to test this two-PC-recording scenario). All drivers (motherboard and GPU drivers) are latest.
The only odd thing about PC2 is that this is a "Local Account" setup, no Microsoft Account was used. It was activated at some point, but I had to use that Windows key for a different PC, so I de-activated it on this PC. Surely, that wouldn't cause the error, I hope?
NOTE: I also tried with OBS run as Admin, still got the same errors. Same thing happens even if I just do Replay Buffer (no recording).
Now, I know someone might say that this is too much for a 3060 to handle, but, hear me out, I've tried this successfully with other PC setups, and it has worked PERFECTLY fine in all the following cases. I've been doing 2 PC recordings in 4K for several months now, I've never had encoding errors before. Given that the 3060 and 3090 should ideally be the same as far as NVENC encoding is concerned, something else must be wrong here, right? Also, the 3060 can't possibly be worse than an AMD CPU iGPU, right?
Here are setups where recording has worked properly, with almost no encoding errors:
I. One-PC setup:
Gaming AND Recording done on same PC.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5950X, GPU: RTX 3090, 3840x2160, 60FPS, CBR, 50000 Kbps, NVENC HEVC.
No errors at all, I play on 4K at max settings, and the 3090 still records in 4K without any hiccups.
II. Two-PC setup:
Gaming on PC1 and Recording on PC2 using NDI over a 10Gbps network.
PC1: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5950X, GPU: RTX 3090
PC2: Various PCs used, as given below:
(A) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5950X, GPU: RTX 3080, 3840x2160, 60FPS, CBR, 50000 Kbps, NVENC HEVC: No errors.
(B) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5500GT, GPU: Integrated GPU, 3840x2160, 60FPS, CBR, 50000 Kbps, AMD HW H.265: No errors.
PC setup where the error is occurring:
PC1: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5950X, GPU: RTX 3090
PC2: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3900XT, GPU: RTX 3060, 3840x2160, 60FPS, CBR, 50000 Kbps, NVENC HEVC: LOTS OF ERRORS.
Can someone please help me figure out what the issue is?
