Question / Help My file wont open

I was recording a game and for some reason when I put it in Microsoft Photos it shows this

I cant watch it in VLC media player or windows media player. its an mp4 file and it is around 4 million kb but I have used bigger files than this before and it worked
it is the second time this has happened and it has only happened recently. so how do I fix it?

If OBS crashed or encountered a problem during recording, then there's nothing you can do-- incomplete mp4 files are essentially unrecoverable.

Record to MKV and use the "Remux" item in the File menu to remux to .mp4 after recording is complete.

Never record directly to mp4.

It did not crash, I manually stopped the recording. And thanks for telling me not to record to mp4

It's possible for OBS to crash after you press stop, or in response to you pressing stop, creating a situation where the mp4 never finalizes and OBS just hangs saying "stopping recording".
