Hello, I've been trying to fix this issue for weeks now, whenever I use my mic in OBS there is this crackling noise all the time.
Only when using OBS to record or stream does this occur.
  • I've done separate recordings on Audacity and talking through Discord everything is clean.
  • I've messed with the sample rates, making everything 44.1kHz and 48kHz even with everything on the same sample rate it doesn't help.
  • I moved my mic from inputting directly to OBS to go through a virtual audio channel first and then into OBS but still no luck.
I'm at a total loss here, I can't get this to go away.
I'm 100% sure it is an OBS software problem because the hardware works perfectly everywhere else.

OBS Version: 25.0.8 (Studio)
Mic: AT2020 XLR
Audio Software: Voice Meeter Banana

I'm having the same issue on an M1 mac mini, it only occurs in OBS, no other applications have an issue. I've read all the posts and watched all the troubleshooting videos but nothing has worked to alleviate the problem. It sounds like clipping, but adjusting the input gain does nothing.

Which version did you test?

Exact same issue. Any other audio recorder or video call software works flawlessly. OBS has crackling noise on audio recordings... M1 Mac. Anyone found a fix yet?

I spend a long while trying to solve this, too, M1 mac.
I was trying to record with Recording Format set to mkv, and when I switched to mov the audio was clear, as expected. It was also still clear when auto-remuxed to mp4.
Hope that helps.

Hello!
I had the same problem. And I found a solution.
You need to set up the same frequency for your mic in your system and in OBS. The screenshot is below.

What is interesting - the crackling appeared again for me at 48kHz even after setting the same frequency in the system and in OBS. But it works good with 44.1 kHz.
Another thing which will help to decrease a mic noise - set the mic level in your system to 0 dB, then add additional dB in OBS if you need a louder sound.

I hope this will help you! Enjoy!

For me my fix was to uninstal NVidia Broadcast, since then I didnt got any issue or voice crackling with the mic

I'm having this issue too! And even weirder, it only happens for my recordings. It started over an hour into a stream too (stream itself is fine but my voice in the VOD crackles like crazy). None of the above fixes have worked for me so far

i had this crackling that sounded like a fire and did everything for hours change wire and settings. The problem was because i moved my mic and it was sitting above my wifi router in the mic arm holder and when i moved it away the crackling stopped.... idk if thisll help anyone but ya... that was my solution

I'm using OBS and Nvidia Broadcast (with and RTX 3080). And I was getting the frequent crackling and popping in my OBS recordings. I tried a few things, but the one that did work was OlegG's solution above. To change the audio sample rate to 44.1khz from 48khz. I didn't necessarily match it with the sample rate that Windows was reporting for the Nvidia Broadcast "mic." Because the ability to change it was grayed out in the Windows device settings for the "mic."

But it did seem to fix the issue. Listening to the video, there was a couple small cracklings, particularly at the beginning of it, but otherwise my mic audio sounded clean and clear. So maybe not a perfect fix, but it did remove like 99% of the crackling and popping.
