Issues with Windows 24H2

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with OBS and 24H2? OBS was working fine until Microsoft forced the 24h2 update on me and now I have recording issues as well as the Preview window freezing.

Sometimes when the freezing occurs, the recording is not effected, but sometimes the recording freezes at the same point in time as the preview windows does.

I've gone as far as re-installing Windows with a 24h2 iso thinking that something weird happened during the upgrade last time from 23h2, but unfortunately this isn't the case. Made sure all the drivers are up to date too, but the problem still occurs randomly.

A log file from an active session from the moment the issue happens is need
If you still didn't updated the GPU driver, now is the time. Same with OBS. You may want to backup your profile and scene collection (and other configs from plugins if you use them) and then update. Or use the newest OBS version in portable mode to test.

Here is the log https://obsproject.com/logs/D8Dh5ODxTsawZ0l9

FYI - im running OBS on a 2nd computer just setup for recording/streaming.

Things that ive tried previously:
Run as Admin
Turn off Game Mode
Turn off Core Isolation
Tried running not in full screen
Tried running in full screen
Updated all drivers (latest nvidia drivers)
Turned off Optimizations for windowed games
Turned off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling

Hi, I had the same problem yesterday. I was forced to update Windows to 24H2, and OBS completely froze. I tried everything—reinstalling, updating NVIDIA drivers, etc. Then, I took the issue log and threw it into ChatGPT. It analyzed the errors and told me how to fix them, and now everything is working fine. In my case some problems with webcam and interface constantly freezeeeeee but i solved all.

I took your log and did the same, running it through ChatGPT. Here’s what it said, translated because im Spanish. Or if you don’t have ChatGPT, you can create a free account—it’s amazing what it can do!

I don't know if this will help you, but you can ask ChatGPT anything and it will help you step by step. I thought this might help you, so share this option if you don't like waiting.

A log file from the moment the issue is present would be of help. If the issue happened when recording in this log file, most probably the issue it's outside OBS.
The only thing you should enable because it do help is Windows Game Mode
Also, try setting the preset to p4 on the encoder. Disable lookahead.

To record games is better to use game capture or window capture instead of display capture.

Other thing you may want to try is running again the Auto-configuration Wizard and apply the settings it gives. Notice you're now on simple output mode. Keep it like this. Restart OBS (very important).
Now test it as is.
Change the recording quality preset for a better one. Test it.
If all goes well, you're done.

After one day, the freezing issue appeared intermittently, so I restored Windows to version 23H2 and now all works fine.

It's a pain to deal with incompatibilities. I tested forcing OBS to use full performance via the Nvidia 3D settings, setting compatibility to Windows 7, 8, or 10, running it as an administrator, disabling hardware GPU acceleration, disabling HAGS, using window capture for the game, and uninstalling Nvidia Broadcast. I also restarted after every single step. Clearly, there's some kind of incompatibility with Windows 24H2. I have an i7-11700K, an RTX 3070, and 32GB of RAM—there's no way this should be happening..

My guess is that the Windows update caused some issues with the nvidia driver and nvidia still couldn't find what and where is the problem, and is related to the RTX series, but not all users. And as you're using a Quadro GPU, the issues may be worst.
