Having trouble recording an online video

I had OBS all configured to do what I wanted and it was working just fine. Then an update must have changed how the app works.

First of all. What's with the new icon in the toolbar for Sharing? It seems to turn itself on all the time. When the icon is purple and I click on it, it says I am Currently Sharing and I have to click Stop Sharing. What did I do that started the sharing? I'm not aware of turning on any sharing. How do I permanently eliminate sharing so it doesn't start automatically?

All I want to do is record video clips I periodically find online that I want to save. I use Safari for my browser, so I had OBS configured with Screen Record as my scene and macOS Screen Capture as my source. In the Properties for macOS Screen Capture, I had Application Capture selected for the Method and Safari as the Application. I would start the recording in OBS, switch applications to Safari, and with the tab selected for the web site with the video I wanted to record, I would start playing the video and change the video to full-screen. I would get a full-screen recording of the video I wanted to save. NOW THAT NO LONGER WORKS and I don't know what I need to do differently. Now I'm getting recordings of other web pages in other Safari tabs, not the tab with the video even though that's the full-screen video I'm seeing on the monitor.

I hope I've described this well enough for someone to understand what I want to achieve and help me change whatever I need to change to make the recording work correctly. Thank you.

Depending on how the video player works, OBS might not have access to it. It's possible to just draw a black box in that area, and then tell the graphics card to decode the data and put the result in that box. When you try to capture that, you just get the black box and not the video.

I don't think it's *intentionally* done that way to enforce copyright - the real reason has more to do with performance - but it *is* a welcome side-effect for those that don't want their stuff stolen. So for that reason, you might find it difficult to actually get help, considering that that's precisely what you're trying to do.
