Question / Help Great PC but have terrible stream lag.

Hey guys.. brand new to streaming. I'm confident my rig should be able to get it done on a high level but it's just not happening. I'm pretty clueless so the answer could be right in front of me, need another set of eyes to help me diagnose the issue. I'm running and i7 8700k @ 3.7 ghz, gtx 1070 ti, with 16 gigs of ram. I've got fiber internet connection straight wired to my desktop. My upload speed on speed test is over 300 mbps... I've tried adjusting every possible setting and sacrificed all kinds of quality and it helps very little. Someone please help :)

13:26:21.536: Output 'simple_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 674 (20.1%)

GPU overload.

GPU Overload Issues

13:26:21.899: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 2070/2142 (96.6%)

Encoding overload.

https://obsproject.com/wiki/General-Performance-And-Encoding-Issues

13:26:30.258: [x264 encoder: 'simple_h264_stream'] preset: ultrafast

That is probably too low quality.

13:25:25.575: [x264 encoder: 'simple_h264_stream'] preset: faster

That is probably too high quality. Usual suggested setting is veryfast. Any faster and quality will be too low. Any slower and you will get encoding overload on most CPUs without appreciable improvement.

Alright, I turned down every setting I can think of and it looks almost not terrible now... I don't understand why this is necessary though.. my specs it should be running much higher quality. Do I need to turn down my game settings also to find a happy medium?

okay so this doesn't look like the right log file.. but im just using the last one available right after the stream. Im sorry Im so clueless...

Something is definitely very wrong.

15:01:14.351: [x264 encoder: 'simple_h264_stream'] preset: superfast

15:01:27.992: Output 'simple_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 26 (3.2%)
15:01:27.993: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 308/765 (40.3%)

If you're set to superfast and getting 40% skipped frames due to encoding log, something is overloading your CPU.

You might want to use NVENC instead to get the load of encoding off the CPU.

You're also still getting GPU overload, though.

15:00:00.479: Output 'simple_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 81 (7.9%)

I would suggest going for either 720p60 or 1080p30, unless there's something else running that's causing load that you can get rid of.

No issues whatsoever in that log.

Did you have to go as far as ultrafast to eliminate all the encoding lag? Because it seems like that shouldn't be necessary...

Yeah there's something fundamental at issue here, but I can't see what it is just from the OBS logs.

Are you overclocking? What else is running besides your game and OBS when you stream?
