FPS drop lag, goes away with Alt-tab

Hi all,

I've been experiencing momentary lags during my streams. My FPS would dip slightly and the game would feel very choppy until I alt-tab out and back in. 0 dropped frames shown on OBS so it cannot be a network issue.

I have a Ryzen 5600x and a 1080ti which should provide the performance I need. There's no issue with the stream at all until this lag occurs (every 30 mins or so).

Any help would be appreciated!

1. In Windows 10 versions 1809 and newer, we recommend that "Game Mode" be enabled for maximum gaming performance. Game Mode can be enabled via the Windows 10 "Settings" app, under Gaming > Game Mode.
2. Your audio devices has a sample rate that doesn't match OBS sample rate. This can result in audio drift over time or sound distortion. Check your audio devices in Windows settings (both Playback and Recording) and ensure the Default Format (under Advanced) is consistent. 48000 Hz is recommended.
OBS Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
Line (3- Steinberg UR22mkII ): 44100 Hz
3. Run OBS as Admin. Right click on shortcut, properties, advanced, check box, ok, apply, ok.
4. Display and Game Capture Sources interfere with each other. Never put them in the same scene. Try not to use Display Capture at all. Use Window/Video Device Capture etc.

Hi there, thank you for the response. I've applied all 4 changes and the problem still exists :( Heres a link to the updated log

1. The new Windows 10 Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling ("HAGS") added with version 2004 is currently known to cause performance and capture issues with OBS, games and overlay tools. It's a new and experimental feature and we recommend disabling it via this screen or these instructions.
2. If still having issues, make sure you log contains your Security Software Status:

The problem still exists with HAGS disabled, and I am not sure why my log does not contain any security software status. Thank you for helping, though.

Change the NVENC Preset from Max Quality to Quality and uncheck the box for Psycho Visual Tuning.

Will test this out. By the way, I forgot to mention that I'm running a dual monitor setup (240hz and 60hz) and perhaps this might be contributing to the issue?

Here is the latest log, no significant FPS drops were recorded but the lag would occur periodically - it feels like the refresh rate is dropping and the game would feel choppy. And the lag would immediately disappear if I alt-tab out and back in OR if I hit windows key + space to cycle through input methods.

There's no log attached. Older versions of Windows 10 had an issue with different refresh rates, but that's been resolved in newer versions. Try changing the refresh rate to 120 Hz and capping the game at 120 FPS.

The problem was fixed by putting the OBS window on the primary monitor instead of the 2nd monitor.

I'm having the same issue, have you found any other fix in the past 2 years that doesn't compromise having OBS in the primary monitor?

Hello Everybody!
So, after all this time, do you still struggle with this?
I have only 1 or 2 games that (captured in "Game Capture") makes this kind of lag on OBS (audio meters lagging, and also overlays like browser sources from stream elements playing choppy if focus are in game and not in obs).
I have OBS on 2nd monitor, but well, I could on windows define that monitor as 1st monitor, it just don´t make sense to me. The strange thing is that this only happens (as I´m remembering) with RedM and Satisfactory. With FiveM, for example, that problem don´t exist. Or Rocket League, Trackmania, or even if I'm on browser... it´s only some games that causes this choppy OBS.
Most strange thing is, on the bottom of OBS window, the CPU usage is always around 1%, and well, I have it optimized very well since I have more than 130 scenes - you would understand why if you saw my stream hahaha) all full with stuff going on (my stream is actually technically very demanding). But everything runs smooth except for those games, and it´s not that it's not smooth, the capture of the game is smooth, everything is smooth, it´s only obs itself that lags and causes some choppiness on browser sources...
