can't get audio source on track 4 to record in local recordings, only if track-1 is also selected

hi, i guess maybe this is a limitation of OBS

but i can't seem to achieve what i want.

i currently have the typical setup of Track 1 (Stream) + Track 6 (What makes it to VOD), and then disabling Track 6 on certain sources that play on stream but I don't want on VOD.

However I would like to have one source (ie. Teamspeak) be silent on both stream and vod, but when saved when recording is active (hence track 4). My "Recording" tracks are 1, 4, 6. But it doesn't do it. Even if obs is detecting teamspeaks volume, it doesn't make it to the local recording unless it is also on Track 1.

I assume you're streaming to Twitch. Normal usage is:
Track 1 goes to VOD. Select the sources you want to be on the VOD.
Track 2 is for music or whatever you don't want to keep on the VOD. You need to select the other sources from track 1 too if I'm not wrong.

You can use other tracks for whatever you want in the recording. It is recorded but not all video players read multiple tracks. Use VLC player to read it and make sure you selected this track to be heard.
On good video editors you can see all the recorded tracks and work from it.

yes i can control the stream + vod audio but it seems that i cannot make it so when it comes to local recording, a specific track (ie completely separate doesnt show up on stream and doesnt show up on twitch vod) like set to track 4, obs will detect it but it wont pick it up on the local recording

my shotcaller in a game i play does not want the guild discord/comms publicly available on stream/vod, which is why this problem is occurring. i thought the track system would let me just have a track going on in the background esp since the recording tab of obs lets me select tracks 1-6, but if it is not also in track 1, then it doesnt detect it

In this case you describe you also need to select track 1 for the audio you want to be on the VOD, not only track 4 which is going to be on the recorded file.
Anything you want on the VOD goes to track 1.
Anything that goes in stream but is not recorden in the VOD goes to track 2.
Anything else, that goes on a local recording (tracks 3 to 6 plus 1) you can select or not track 1 or 2 for this. If you don't want it on stream and VOD then untick track 1 and 2 for this audio. remember to select monitor only in the advanced audio settings. Make sure in the global audio settings you assigned correctly the monitoring device (normally a headphone).
