After OBS/Windows 10 power failure both PTZ Optics cameras Cameras stop responding

Hey Folks ,

Brand new Windows 10 OBS Studio reinstall a few weeks ago and fixed all of the trial and error issues from a year ago
Everything was working fantastic
Had presets all done ( They still are but unusable)
Someone by accident pulled the power strip wall plug and killed the PC, Cameras, and the TPLINK 16 port/8 port POE managed switch for the camera network
2 ea PTZ Optics cameras
OBS Studio latest version updated a few weeks ago with the latest tool/plugin to control the cameras
Camera stops responding on the network - Cant connect or get it to show the log in screen for the camera
I put in an IP address for the camera and it does not respond
In its current state it plays video for the first preset position of the plugin on both cameras

Using the Plug In app on OBS Studios for changing positions etc. in OBS Studio stopped working
After a reboot: Camera shows the default camera position when powered up ( POE unplug and plug )
Then goes to the first setting the camera Plugin APP had to position the cameras before the power failure

Then BOTH cameras become unresponsive via the web and the app tool won't work

Plugin App does not respond
No browser response nor can I ping it
Tried rebooting the cameras but no good
Reviewed all of OBS Studio but could not find anything
Going back in the am to review the logs etc. to see if I can find the issue
Anyone ever hear of this ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Sounds like camera not at IP address you expect (or not working at all).. plenty of reasons that can happen
Was IP hard-coded, DHCP, or DHCP with reservation?
Are you SURE the managed PoE switch came back up with correct config? is everything else on same IP address as before? same ACLs in place, etc.

For the camera, I'd try USB or HDMI output options to confirm camera actually working (see above regarding switch and possibly PoE settings)
If camera working, then I'd be inclined to use USB and get to mgmt interface from there and check IP address

Mornin Lawrence apologies but been very busy with other work ! Thx for the reply ... Heading back there this am! After the power fail, I would have thought that the connections would have come right back up .. Strange that the initial hit did NOT take the cameras down just lost a connection to it - pointing to possible OBS but nothing shows an issue . I used the PTZOptics password app given to me a few weeks ago to reset the pwd's as I could not initially get any action form the cameras and it seemed to have restored some connectivity to the cameras. Great suggestions as I DO have the HDMI portion working as well thru the ATEM Mini Pro . The video feed works as its just the cameras do not respond to moving, pan, tilt etc. I also have a manual base unit to temp plug back in and try the Joystick . I'll update later on today ! Again Thx for the reply !

Good Morning Lawrence

Finally had a chance yesterday to go into Church and take a closer look. Found that somehow after the power failure of the pc and the TPLink switch the PTZ Optics 30X cameras reset static addresses to a default IP address( 192.168.100.88). I found this really troubling as I would think that the cameras should not have done this ! Well glad it was a simple fix ! We are back to 100% in that all of the presets etc. work as well as the audio ! Thx for the Response as I appreciate the help!

yes, odd, and something I'd contact PTZ Optics about, as statically assigned IPs should not change.
However, I'm wondering if someone did a camera reset while troubleshooting which would cause that IP address change (and more).

Hi :Lawrence
No camera reset but on one of the cameras the password somehow got changed so I used the PTZOptics app they gave me to change it back to admin . No idea why both changed to default IP's tho ... Interestingly, the app used to change the pwd , had a binary string, and after resetting camera pwds( PTZ Optics changed them a few weeks ago remoting in) now I cannot change it as it is stuck on a set pwd !

too much for me to think just a coincidence about these other issues, and the loss of statically assigned IPs... but you may never know.
So something to add to your troubleshooting checklist, and move on

Sounds like contacting PTZ Optics support is in order, getting PWD situation squared away properly, ensuring proper camera config, backing up those configs, etc

We also had issues with inappropriate power strip unplugging (or powering off, including one time someone not realizing office gateway router plugged into that specific power strip....) So side recommendation - IT hardware (circuit boards, etc) tend to last a lot longer with clean power, so using an auto-voltage regulating battery backup system (UPS) for all such gear tends to go a long way, and I do for ALL of our gear

And in the keep it simple (and use less power), I use NDI instead of HDMI on our PTZ camera, so a single cable for power, control, and video feed. We do what we need on the computer (camera control on 2nd screen, OBS Scenes for various configs, vs using an external HDMI switcher)... but there are valid reasons for either approach

Hi Lawrence ,
Apologies for not getting back to you as I never received a notification email as I have your last post via email but not this one ! Checking that now as its set up and should be working !
All is well as I have my presets back , Cameras work great ( NDI saved me for the video feed as POE kept the Cameras up after the IP's defaulted ! 3 Cables run for each camera : Coax Serial and Ethernet ! Glad I did as I had manual control thru the joystick of one camera ( Need to set the second camera up) to use until I figured out some of these issues also ! When I lost the IP addresses , SDI saved me as well ! Yea I have a list for PTZOptics as I just found this now too and need to see how they are addressing this as it came out last week ! https://cybersecuritynews.com/cisa-warns-of-ptzoptics-cameras-vulnerability/ . So hopefully i know enough now in case it happens again ! So Yes I have a bone to pick with them ! Hopefully they know/are working on 2 these fixes !
