Programs like this are already out there, but I couldn't find one that could display keys and keys-per-second/actions-per-minute/etc. and was free.

The keyymap format documentation can be found here.

Downloading other builds
Select your preferred build starting here (I recommend the latest available).
Select "Keyy.zip".
Click "Raw" and save the file to your disk.

Usage
Open your preferred build (either 32bit or 64bit) and drag&drop a keyboard layout file into the window or drag&drop a keyboard layout file into the executable.
Keyy requires .NET 4.0 Client Profile to work.

Known issues
Keyy uses GDI+ for rendering, this means that some applications (for whatever magical reason) like to prevent the window from updating, and thus it doesn't update.
Some applications might break Keyy's keyboard hook if they are not passing on keypress events.

Attempting to open a (large) file that isn't in keymap format hangs the application.

Avira Anti-Virus and Qihoo-360 return a false positive on the 32bit version. (?)
This is most likely caused by the keyboard hooking.

Capturing
I advise using Inner Window Capture to capture Keyy (with optional chroma-keying).
